  • 6-8 pieces crispy fried chicken tenders Store-bought or homemade; must be crispy.
  • 3 cups chopped romaine lettuce Adds freshness and crunch.
  • 1/2 cup dill pickles, plus a few splashes of brine Brings a zesty punch.
  • 1/4 cup sliced red onion For aromatic crunch and flavor.
  • 4 pieces hoagie rolls Soft sesame hoagies preferred.

For the Alabama White BBQ Sauce

  • 1 1/4 cups mayonnaise The base of our sauce.
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar Adds tanginess.
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard For depth of flavor.
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar Enhances overall taste.
  • 2 teaspoons creamy horseradish Adjust according to spice comfort level.
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice Brightens flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce Adds umami flavor.
  • 2 teaspoons hot sauce Adjust for heat preference.
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper Use less if desired.
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder Adds flavor.
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder Subtle background flavor.
  • to taste salt and pepper Seasoning is key.

Instructions
 

Prepare the Sauce

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together all Alabama white BBQ sauce ingredients until smooth. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.

Prepare Chicken and Rolls

  • Warm the crispy chicken tenders until hot, preferably in the oven to maintain crunch.
  • Split the hoagie rolls and toast with butter in a pan until golden brown and crisp.

Assemble the Sandwich

  • On a large cutting board, layer lettuce, pickles, red onion, and warm chicken.
  • Chop everything together until a chopped-salad texture forms.
  • Drizzle BBQ sauce over the mixture and mix in until everything is well combined and coated.
  • Generously stuff the chopped mixture into the toasted hoagie rolls.
  • Add an extra drizzle of BBQ sauce on top before serving.

Notes

For best results, toast the rolls to a crispy perfection. Don’t skip tasting the BBQ sauce to adjust to your preference. Can use lettuce wraps instead of hoagie rolls for keto options.
