Preparation

  • Soften the butter by leaving it at room temperature for 30-60 minutes or microwaving it for 10 seconds.
  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter on medium speed until creamy and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Fold in the apple butter until fully incorporated, scraping the sides of the bowl as needed.
  • Gradually sift in the powdered sugar, mixing one cup at a time until fully combined and fluffy.
  • Adjust the consistency by adding milk or heavy cream one tablespoon at a time.
  • Mix in the vanilla, ground cinnamon (if using), and a pinch of salt until well combined.
  • Taste and adjust flavors as desired.

Notes

This icing can also be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for about a week. To revive, let it sit at room temperature before using.
