Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 4 pieces boneless, skinless chicken breasts Use fresh for best flavor; thighs can be used for juicier meat.
  • 2 pieces apples, sliced A mix of sweet and tart, like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp.
  • 1 piece onion, chopped A yellow onion works well, can substitute with shallots.

Cooking Ingredients

  • 1 cup apple cider Adds sweetness and flavor balance.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil Can be substituted with butter for richer flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon thyme Fresh thyme is recommended, but dried works too.
  • to taste Salt and pepper Essential seasonings for flavor enhancement.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper, then add them to the skillet. Cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through.
  • Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and sliced apples. Sauté for about 5 minutes until they begin to soften.
  • Pour in the apple cider and sprinkle with thyme. Stir to combine and let simmer for another 5 minutes.
  • Return the chicken to the skillet and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  • Serve warm, accompanied by rice or crusty bread.

Notes

Avoid using sour apples; season the chicken before cooking. Leftovers work beautifully in wraps or salads.
