For the pastry stacks

  • 1 package puff pastry sheets (about 8 ounces) Flaky, buttery layers that will create that heavenly crispiness.
  • 8 ounces ham, sliced Try to use a deli ham or a nice smoked variety for a more intense flavor.
  • 8 ounces cheese (e.g., Swiss or cheddar), sliced The melty goodness that gets stretchy and gooey.
  • 1 large egg, beaten For egg wash to add a beautiful golden color to the tops.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Roll out the puff pastry sheets on a floured surface and cut them into squares or rectangles.
  • On half of the pastry pieces, place a slice of ham followed by a slice of cheese.
  • Cover with the remaining pastry pieces and seal the edges with a fork.
  • Brush the tops with the beaten egg and sprinkle with salt, pepper, and herbs if desired.

Cooking

  • Bake the trays in the oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  • Serve warm as an appetizer.

Notes

Ensure puff pastry is fully thawed before use. Avoid overcrowding the trays when baking.
