Ingredients

  • 1 pack thick-cut bacon High fat ratio for better crispiness.
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar Caramelizes for sweetness.
  • 1/2 tablespoon water Helps combine sugar and spices.
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper Added for warmth.
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper For a spicy kick.
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes Optional for extra spice.

For the Crostini

  • 1 baguette baguette Crusty on the outside, soft inside.
  • to taste tablespoon olive oil Drizzle to prevent dryness.
  • to taste salt salt Seasoning to taste.
  • to taste pepper pepper Seasoning to taste.

For Assembly

  • 4 or 8 ounce log of goat cheese Creamy and tangy.
  • to drizzle maple syrup, honey, or hot honey For the finishing touch.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Mix brown sugar, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and water in a bowl to create a thick paste.

Bacon Baking

  • Arrange bacon slices on the baking sheet in a single layer.
  • Coat both sides of the bacon with the sugar mixture.
  • Sprinkle red pepper flakes if desired.
  • Bake for about 15 minutes; flip the bacon and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until crispy.
  • Transfer the bacon to a paper towel-lined plate to cool.

Crostini Preparation

  • Increase oven temperature to 425°F (220°C).
  • Slice the baguette into ½-inch slices and arrange on a baking sheet.
  • Brush with olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
  • Bake for 7-10 minutes, flipping halfway through.

Assembly

  • Break the bacon into smaller pieces.
  • Place the goat cheese log on a serving dish and press bacon bits into the cheese.
  • Drizzle with maple syrup, honey, or hot honey.
  • Serve with crostini on the side.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge; to reheat, put in the oven at 350°F for a few minutes.
