  • 3 cups all-purpose flour Use a trusted brand for quality.
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt Enhances flavor and dough structure.
  • 0.5 teaspoon instant yeast No need to bloom; toss it in.
  • 1.25 cups warm water Aim for about 110°F.
  • 1 cup shredded Gouda cheese Use quality cheese for best flavor.
  • 0.25 cup fresh dill, chopped Fresh is best; dried can be substituted.

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, and instant yeast, and stir well.
  • Pour in warm water and mix until a sticky dough forms.
  • Fold in shredded Gouda and chopped dill gently.
  • Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap and let it sit at room temperature for 12 to 18 hours.

Baking

  • Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and place your Dutch oven inside to heat.
  • Turn out the dough onto a floured surface and shape it into a round loaf. Let it rest for 30 minutes.
  • Carefully remove the hot Dutch oven, place the dough inside, cover with the lid, and bake for 30 minutes.
  • After 30 minutes, remove the lid and bake for an additional 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown.
  • Let the bread cool before slicing.

Notes

Store leftovers in a paper bag at room temperature for optimal freshness. Reheat in a toaster oven or under the broiler.
